Traffic Safety

Statistical analysis

The evaluation of accident data makes accident occurrence more transparent. The cause of accidents can be gathered from parameter values and attributes of accidents.

  • Interrelationship between measures to prevent accidents and accident statistics

Geographical analysis

Geographic data allows the specific analysis of accidents situated in areas or road sections. Accident rates show the relation between accidents on road sections and traffic volume. They can be used for comparison of accident frequencies on different road sections. Instead of the number of accidents the costs of accidents can also be used as a measure. The resulting accident cost rate indicates accident severeness.

Traffic safety and ITS

What are the effects of in-vehicle systems on traffic safety? Driver assisting systems support the driver through additional information or direct intervention in the driving task and therefore contribute to prevent traffic accidents.
