Electronic collection of road charges (toll) is based on devices in vehicles, which allow, based on a data exchange with roadside equipment and central servers, determining the usage of chargeable parts of the road infrastructure and automatic charging of the fees. Electronic fee collection systems should be interoperable, such that the same device can be used in different parts of the road network. Since we participate in concrete practical system development projects (mileage-based heavy vehicle fee in Switzerland, heavy vehicle toll in Germany) and are involved in international standardization, we can support you in system design and technology choice, and be consulted for interoperability issues at all levels.

ITS requires intensive data exchange between vehicles and stationary IT systems. Security measures are crucially important. Standard data security methods cannot be transferred to system environments in vehicles one-to-one. Beside expert knowledge on cryptographic methods accurate analysis of possible weaknesses and a clear conceptual framework are essential for presenting solutions adapted to the specific system.
